Question by : White things on my tongue?
I noticed that there is some white and yellow things on the back of my tongue and when I clean them I close my mouth and open again and they are back immediately.
What are those and could they cause halitosis

Question by : Can the bacteria on the tongue lead to anything apart from bad breath? And is a toothbrush enough to clean it?
I am wondering if the bacteria on the tongue can lead to anything more serious than just bad breath, I must admit i am 15 and have never cleaned my tongue only my teeth, I thought the white coating on my tongue was just form being dehydrated but now i know it is bacteria that causes bad breath and i am wondering if rubbing gently with a wet toothbrush and rinsing the mouth with water is enough to get rid of this bacteria effectively, My toothpaste has the chemical which causes dehydration (Can’t remember the name something like Lauryl whatever) so i don’t use toothpaste on my tongue.

Mouth washing is enough to clean the tongue, some bacteria are always in the mouth and are needed anyway. Is your mouthwash maybe Corsydol? This is strong and can stain your teeth if used daily. Try buying an own brand mouthwash this is just as good. Corsydol is only needed for gum healing.

Question by : How long will it take for my white tongue and bad breath to go..?
I’ve had this for about 3 years now, and I didn’t use to brush my tongue and now this is the consequence! I bought an orabrush like 8 days ago, and have been using it to brush my tongue. And I brush my teeth well.. But the thing is, I have braces, so I think that that’s contributing aswell! But the bad breath is coming from the back of my throat.. Do you have any home remedies that could help?

If what you have is “Thrush”. Here is the remedy I found:

Mix
1/2 Teaspoon of cherry flavor Milk of Magnesia and
1/2 Teaspoon of Benedryl together.
Gargle 4 times a day. Don’t swallow the mixture.
In addition : take pro-biotic one capsule a day
It should heal in 2-3 days

i have a tongue brusher and an orabrush, but after i eat or after an hour, all the bacteria i scraped off is back on!
my brother rarely brushes his tongue and his tongue is always pink! and he has good breath

How to treat Halitosis (bad breath)
-Use Mouthwash regularly. I Use Scope Outlast, and it works wonders for me :)
-Carry Mints and breath strips in your back pocket
- Peppermint Gum comes in handy
- Brush teeth with baking soda to kill an unseen wall of bacteria called biofilm.
- Drink water. Whats on your tounge is probably a white color? It means your dehydrated. Plus, It will make your tounge look pink and healthy.
- Gently use the back of your toothbrush to scrape the inside of your cheeks. Bacteria and dead skin cells build up in there, so it’s probably best to clear it out.

She Also clears her throat frequently, and says she feels like there are “boogers” in her throat. I believe this is allergy related as she has done this off and on since the age of one. But the bad breath and white, pastey tongue is something new! I have no idea what this could be.

im 16 and have had bad breath since i can remember, i usually mask this problem by chewing gum although i have never solved the problem permanently. i brush my teeth twice a day and my tongue but it seems to have no affect, the white stuff will remain on my tongue even with rigorous scrapings with a spoon. the white stuff is particularly concentrated on the back of my tongue and i also have small pimple like bumps in this area. i do not have white patches on the inside of my cheeks which apparently means you have thrush as stated by one forum user.

is there any way i can get rid of the white stuff and would this require me to see a doctor or dentist?

its impossible to get rid of all of it, but it will take a few sessions of scrapping to get it off. As for the very back of the tongue, it doesnt really come off that easily
