So it is very embarrassing and I can’t speak about it in person with anyone for obvious reasons, but my breath smells like feces…it is so awful that I feel like everyone talks about me if I am near them. My question is, what can stop it? I brush my teeth at least twice a day, with mouthwash and floss…

I have been brushing and flossing and using mouthwash for the last year and it just will not go away. What makes it worse is because someone told me to brush my teeth because they smelled it, yet I do. It’s an awful feeling and I feel like I am a good person at heart so why is this happening to me. But is this just some strange and rare occurrence or does this happen to many people?

I have tried the Orabrush and that doesn’t work. I have tried mouthwash that my dentist recommending to get rid of the smell and it doesn’ work. I have bought different tooth brushes and used ones that my dentist recommended. Yes I know about Halitosis. I don’t know what else to do other than have breath mints handy, but I don’t want to spend the rest of my life worrying about if I have breath mints or not. And I REALLY would hate to not be able to be intimate with someone because of it. Is there anything you guys can tell me that will help?

Awe I feel terrible. It seems like you have tried really hard so at this point, I would see a doctor for it. Until then, keep doing what you’re doing and chew a minty flavored gum or have a mint in hand at all times. I hope this gets better for you!

About a month ago, I almost swallowed nail polish remover. It got to the edge of my throat, but I never swallowed. I washed out my mouth profusely, and the Poison Control Center said I would be fine. I also had my wisdom teeth removed about 2 months ago. Well now, for the past month, I’ve had horrible breath and a very dry throat. I don’t know if the problems are related, but nothing works. I’ve tried Thera Breath, drinking lots of water, flossing everywhere, and drops with no luck.

Please help!

You may have holes in your tonsils called crypts. Sometimes these crypts fill up with food, mucus, and bacteria and create little balls called tonsil stones. They would definitely explain the bad breath and having a dry throat could be causing your body to produce excess mucus. If not, you might want to go back to your oral surgeon to make sure your sockets haven’t developed an infection.

I could really kick myself right now. I just left the doctor’s office and got so lost in the conversation about my other health problems that I didn’t even ask the doctor if I have oral thrush and if she could prescribe something for it. I’m pretty sure I have it – though I don’t have the milky lesions, just a white coating on the tongue that won’t go away and a horrible metallic taste accompanied by bad breath. it just started a few days ago right before the onset of nausea, migraines and chills. The doc thinks a sinus infection is the culprit of the other symptoms. Anyhoo, the taste is so bad that I can’t stand to drink water and my breath is just awful. I need to know what I can do to help this go away, if anything (besides taking probiotics and eating unsweetened yogurt). I’m already taking probiotics even though I haven’t taken them regularly in about a week. Hmm, I wonder if getting off track with the probiotics caused the thrush? Any insight on this would be really helpful and I’ll be forever thankful!

If you have TRUE thrush, yogurt should help. The bacteria in yogurt helps fight the overcrowding of the bacteria that causes thrush. But you have to make sure that you buy a yogurt that says “live cultures” on the container. (Yoplait or dannon) Try doing that, that’s usually what doctors will tell you to do as well. If this doesn’t help, then you probably don’t have thrush and you should consult a doctor.

My husband has had very intense abdominal pain every night for the last week. The pain is in the center of his abdomen. The ONLY other symptoms he has are the following: a strong fecal odor to his breath around the time the pain becomes severe, and a slight brownish discharge (form his mouth i think) on his pillow in the morning. His bowel movements have been normal, and he just complains of his stomach feeling “uncomfortable” during the day but none of the intense pain. We went to the ER a couple nights ago because the pain was so bad, and they checked his blood, urine, and did an abdomen CAT scan, so they cleared him of appendicitis, kidney infection, etc. They basically said there is nothing that looks suspicious. Does anyone have any idea about this? The particular odor of his breath seems significant to me and is something that I didn’t know to mention to the doctor at the ER. I’ve tried all the symptom checkers at webmd.com, mayoclinic.com, and wrongdiagnosis.com, but I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. Help please!

At the ER the other night did they notice any high constipation – constipation very high up in his intestines – on the CT scan ?

I have looked after patients with similar symptoms to your husband – faecal odor to breath, abdo pain centring around navel, regular bowel movements but they were constipated high up. This was seen on xray and CT Scan. Liquidy faecal matter leaked around the compacted matter and gave them bowel motions.

My father who had chronic lymphatic leukemia had similar odour to his breath for about a year and a half before he died. Many cancer patients have this type of breath odour regardless of the type of cancer, I noticed while working on an oncology ward for a while.

Sorry, I guess its not very nice to hear about but it gives you a few more things to follow up on.

because i hear most mouthwashes have alchol and sugar which just make the breath problem worse?? and what toothpaste is the best? thanks alot. i’m in a state of depression over my bad breath. social life is down the drain and i’m thinkin about quittin my job until i can get this resolved but i cant because its my only job. why do people get halitosis..i mean why me??!! its so frustrating.please help!!

the reason that they say eat yogurt is because the bacteria that cause bad breath living within your GI tract can be tamed by the bacteria (good bacteria) in yogurt. It doesn’t hurt to try it. funny enough i have noticed my breath getting (not so good!) and realized i didn’t eat nearly as much yogurt as i used to. as long as you have got the basics down. brushing of course, and flossing to clear the bacteria from between your teeth. trying yogurt won’t hurt. Also, try tongue cleaners, they are a bit more gentle than scrubbing your tongue and they also are made especially to clean your tongue. I really hope this helps.

Have any of you had any good results from taking probiotics and / or noticed a reduction in bad breath or body odor by taking them on a daily basis? I’d like to try Garden Of Life Primal Defense Ultra since I do have digestive issues to see if that’ll help w/ the bad breath and odor. O yea, also wanted to add that I have seen a dentist and he says my teeth and gums are perfect. I’ve also commented on the b.o. to a couple of doctor’s but they just basically brush it off and one told me she didn’t notice any odor, but it’s weird cuz other people (co-workers and some relatives do??)

Well the bad breath could be caused by what is going on with your digestive system. You may want to be checked for Acid Reflux Disease. As far as the armpits, try chaning your deodrant brand, I find that when I use degree I smell worse then then when I did before showering.

Make sure that you are flushing your body with plenty of water in the meantime!

So basically, starting now if I stopped eating foods that causes bad breath would it be of any help in curing my breath terminally (forever), temporarily (only for the periods of time when I avoid eating them), or would it have absolutely no effect at all – as bad breath stays with you forever once you have it, and cannot be cured? All food will cause bad breath. Its caused by the decomposition of your food by bacteria. You will have bad breath if your don’t brush and floss often enough.

And no its not a disease it doesn’t stay with you forever. Just like you smell bad if your don’t shower, your breath stinks if you don’t follow proper oral hygiene.
