a friend of mine has chronic bad breath, what could be the causes?

Friday, May 21st, 2010

he is in his early 60′s.. he has had this problem for about 15 years. it has gotten progressively worse. brushing his teeth doesn’t seem to be helping. what are the possible causes and solutions.
also how do i tell him he has a problem without insulting him.
when he brushes or uses gum it doesn’t actually take away the bad breath it just adds a minty smell

hi i am interested to know if the cause of bad breath could be caused by helicobactor pylori stomach ulcer?

Need an opinion on what could be wrong with my cat?

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

My cat is around 3 years old and for the past year or so she started getting a runny eye (just one of them) and over time a stuffy nose. It wasn’t so bad before, I would just notice that her eye was runny sometimes, but now her nose has gotten so stuffy that she sneezes sometimes to try to clear her nose and sometimes when she breathes it makes a wheezy sound. I know the wheezing sound is coming from her nose and not just when she breathes cause it only happens when her nose is really stuffy. Sometimes she opens her mouth a little to help her breath better. The runny eye hasn’t gotten worse, just happens every now and then.

I know that there is a possibility that she has a upper respiratory infection, but I don’t really think she does. I just think her sinuses are stuffed.

But nevertheless, if you have an educated opinion of what problem she might have, please let me know.

My bf and I have tried to get her to sneeze more to get some boogers out and we also tried a nasal aspirator bulb which yeilded some results but we only tried this just this morning.

I do have plans to take her to the vet, but I just want to see if this is something we could try to remedy at home (instead of paying a big examination fee at the vet’s for them to tell me “oh you can take care of this at home” or something.)

Anyways… thanks.
She is an inside cat.

Do you think this could be asthma?

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

I have only had an asthma attack once or twice and it was a few years back. I think both times it was exercise induced though. However, I am increasingly noticing problems with my breathing. I don’t know if it is asthma, hay fever, allergies, or something more serious. These are my symptoms though: I have a persistent tightness in my chest and it is hard for me to take full breaths and deep breaths. I believe this is constantly occurring, however, I notice it more at night. It’s hard for me to breathe through my nose even though it isn’t stuffy. I have to breathe through my mouth a lot of the times. My throat tightens up when it’s humid, and when I’m around steam, smoke, and perfume. I have nasal dripping, a cough that has been on and of for months. I don’t even remember when it started. I always have mucus in the back of my throat as well, and it seems like I can never get rid of it. Also, a few times my breathing has been so bad that I feel dizzy. I feel myself starting to panic, but I remind myself it will only make it worse, so I try to take slow breaths and after a few minutes I feel better, although I feel like I’m not breathing 100% great. Also, are there any home remedies that can help this? I have no health insurance.

Is there a disease she could possibly have? (SERIOUS! please help!!)?

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

My good friend from high school has been quite ill for a few months now. (she’s 26) I asked this question somewhere else, and although got no good answers found out that a woman’s daughter has basically EVERY SINGLE symptom listed. Her daughter started getting them when she was 11, she’s now 14 and things are getting worse.

They’re fairly usual symptoms, but they’re causing the destruction of their lives. Enough chit chat, they are:

-TERRIBLE insomnia, up until past 4 every night, no medications or lifestyle changes help.
-Frequent spells of tremors. It’s almost a hyperactive thing, except it mostly happens when they have no energy.
-Terrible nausea very often. Results in shaking and crying.
-Acid reflex.
-Often very lightheaded, frequent headaches/migraines
-Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing although there are no signs of any lung problems.
-If they don’t eat they get bloated, then gassy but not gross just basically air. This is a very painful thing.
-Changes in ability of vision.
-Extreme mood fluxes, (almost like a manic depressive)
-Become very impulsive and apathetic.
-Suicidal tendencies or thoughts.

These girls are not acting out for attention. It took a lot of effort to find out these details in both cases.
I’m very very worried is there any disease they could have that we can cure for them?? I hate seeing my friend’s life unravel. She can’t do ANYTHING anymore, not even eat!
I know depression etc is psychological but I’ve heard that things like brain tumors can make you depressed.

JUST PLEASE HELP!!
Doctors say they’re fine
because they hide their symptoms

but I see the pain my friend suffers. So much pain. How do I stop this??
Oh and one very big one I forgot

-Difficulty moving. No energy. Body just *Wont* move, as if you were dehydrated, although it happens when they’re fully hydrated. She becomes very weak and also dilusional. This happens about 2 times a week.

i had my mouth checked by an oral surgeon and a periodontal disease dentist. They say it doesnt even look like i have dry mouth and since i brush regularly, there should be nothing wrong! I’ve searched and searched the internet and can not find anything else really besides diseases i dont have like diabetes that may cause this or eating the wrong foods…i am a very healthy person and i eat great…some junk here or there but mostly healthy i exercise..i just dont know whats wrong. For about the past 3 years or so, i have had bad breath and dry mouth and now my mouth feels hot inside…im thinking maybe i have an std of the mouth. Thats the only thing left…please tell me if you have heard of any std’s that cause bad breath/dry mouth. Its gettn so bad. oh i have my teeth cleaned every year so thats not it! Thanks a bunch! oh, i’ve had a herpes/aids test done…negative

I have had a terrible taste in my mouth for several months (not from bad breath). What could be causing this?

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

I also seem to have a dry mouth. I try to drink lots of water and chew gum constantly to get rid of the bad taste. I have noticed that some foods have a strange taste. I brush my teeth several times a dayand use mouth wash but still have the bad taste with in minutes after using them. The past few days I feel like my tounge is swollen. It even looks sort of white. I have been taking a medication called Enablex for some bladder problems and thought that might be the cause. I stopped taking it for a couple of weeks but saw no change. It drives me crazy and I want to know what causes it and how to get get rid o f the awful taste.
