It may not be your breath it could be some residue on your tongue. Get a tongue scrapper (local grocery store or pharmacy). Then try using a mild mouth wash.

I chew Wrigleys Extra Spearmint gum. I also like to eat Mentos Mint. I also sometimes chew Wrigleys Doublemint. I LOVE Spearmint better than Peppermint. (Spearmint is sweeter and Peppermint is kinda a little strong but I still like it.) And do Listerine Pocketpaks work? (I mean are they strong and minty)

I have had this problem for as long as i have remembered. It has nothing to do with personal hygene. No matter how clean i make my mouth my mouth can become bitter/salty and smell musty or worse. I have tried hydrogen peroxide mixed with water, listerine, drinking lots of water, nasal spray, mouth probiotics(breezecare). Surprisingly what works best is drinking alcohol.. I NEVER have bad breath after a night of drinking! Chewing gum also helps quite a bit.. The mint helps a bit but i feel like the main reason gum helps is the saliva and consequent swallowing preventing bad bacteria settling on tongue.

Often when i get bad breath i my tongue feels furry and i feel a bit congested inside. I think the problem may either be post nasal drip related or to do with acid reflux.. However as nasal spray hasnt worked for me im not so sure.. Im about to try zantac to see if its acid reflux related..
My daily routine is the following.. floss teeth, brush teeth, rinse with HP, then with probiotic
Oh … i forgot to meantion.. i also scrape my tongue and brush it!
Is this how you reply to a question? Anyway, i would doubt it is a rotten tooth. My dentist said my teeth are well looked after.. And i have had this problem for ever. The smell seems to be only on my tongue.

Also almost forgot to meantion. Reducing my intake of dairy does seem to help a bit but is not a complete solution

I think the way to realising what it might be is considering why drinking alcohol(mainly beer) is prevent it… im not sure if its the beer bacteria or the alcohol itself that helps though!
Thanks heather. a lot of good advice there! I drank a chocolate milk the other day and it did make me feel quite gluggy and coincidentally tongue odour was harder to control.. I really like cheese in my salad sandwhiches though!? Can i at least have that? I cant say the zantac has made any definitive changes.. Once again after a night of alcohol(thursday night) yesterday my breath was controllable.(not perfect like usual though which is probably due to to the milk!)

I am now 90% sure its post nasal drip related.. Ill get some benadryl and tell you the results after a few days use. I would get a nasal spray too but my nose is clear atm.. its beyond that towards the throat i feel congested.
Quick question.. what is the best alternative to benadryl that does not have sedative effects? I read benadryls wikipedia article and was a bit alarmed by the fact it will make me tired! Anything that works as well but without bad effects?

I brush my teeth at least 2-3 times a day…if not more. I use mouth wash almost every time.

i brush my tongue…and try to floss often…

it seems that my breath begins to smell or taste funny after about 20 minutes after I brush…isnt that odd? I am not a fan of gum, since i tend to swallow it a lot…

im not sure what to do…i guess i can ask my dentist…any good solutions?:

It looks like you are doing things right.

This is what the Mayo Clinic says to do:

following steps to improve or prevent bad breath:

■Brush your teeth after you eat. Keep a toothbrush at work to brush after eating. Be sure to brush at least twice a day, for two to three minutes at a time.
■Floss at least once a day. Proper flossing removes food particles and plaque from between your teeth.
■Brush your tongue. Giving your tongue a gentle brushing removes dead cells, bacteria and food debris. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush or a flexible tongue scraper. Try to clean as far back as you can without gagging because the bacteria tend to collect toward the back.
■Clean your dentures well. If you wear a bridge or a partial or complete denture, clean it thoroughly at least once a day or as directed by your dentist.
■Drink plenty of water. To keep your mouth moist, be sure to consume plenty of water — not coffee, soft drinks or alcohol. Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) or sucking on candy (preferably sugarless) also stimulates saliva, washing away food particles and bacteria. If you have chronic dry mouth, your dentist or doctor may additionally prescribe an artificial saliva preparation or an oral medication that stimulates the flow of saliva.
■Use a fairly new toothbrush. Change your toothbrush every three to four months, and choose a soft-bristled toothbrush.
■Schedule regular dental checkups. At least twice a year, see your dentist to have your teeth or dentures examined and cleaned.

I remember hearing that they have these meds that when you take em it makes your breath smell like carrots. (It’s specifically for bad breath)

because i hear most mouthwashes have alchol and sugar which just make the breath problem worse?? and what toothpaste is the best? thanks alot. i’m in a state of depression over my bad breath. social life is down the drain and i’m thinkin about quittin my job until i can get this resolved but i cant because its my only job. why do people get halitosis..i mean why me??!! its so frustrating.please help!!

the reason that they say eat yogurt is because the bacteria that cause bad breath living within your GI tract can be tamed by the bacteria (good bacteria) in yogurt. It doesn’t hurt to try it. funny enough i have noticed my breath getting (not so good!) and realized i didn’t eat nearly as much yogurt as i used to. as long as you have got the basics down. brushing of course, and flossing to clear the bacteria from between your teeth. trying yogurt won’t hurt. Also, try tongue cleaners, they are a bit more gentle than scrubbing your tongue and they also are made especially to clean your tongue. I really hope this helps.
