in causes of bad breath

I noticed that my kittens breath was selling bad and was itching his ears. I was thinking it might be related to him getting his adult teeth or could be a sinus or respiratory infection. I took him to the vet and they said he might have an upset digestive system that is causing the bad breath. They prescribed me fiortiflora (multi-vitamin pro-biotic) once a day for a month and a quarter of a Pepsid AC a day for one week. They also said to switch completely to dry food. I was concerned that the cat might have an ear infection so I brought him back and insisted the vet check his ears. They checked his ears and with a smug smile said they were fine. Eight days later his breath is 25% better but he still occasionally shakes his head and scratches the back of his ears. I intend on finishing the pro-biotics because I have done alot of research and it is a great product and I still plan on keeping him on dry food. Should I go get a second opinion immediately or wait a little longer?
