how long does it take for the white film to come off the tongue after having a tonsillectomy?

I had my tonsillectomy about 8 days ago. My doctor informed me that the white film over my tongue that causes bad breath/odor is common. He didn’t tell me however how long it would take for that to go away. So I’m wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and has a rough idea of how long it took for them. Thanks!
