I have had a nasty cough now for around 5 days (I know it doesn’t sound like much but it’d driving me mad). When I cough it hurts my head and I have strained the back of my neck with it too so that hurts when I cough too.
It seems to be worse when I am lying down, whether it’s in bed on the sofa floor etc, so it’s not allergies.
It’s kind of tickly in the back of my throat, and brings up a little mucus when I cough sometimes.
I can’t make a full sentence at times with it as I just keep coughing when my breath starts to run out. I can’t take a deep breath without coughing and no cough medicine seems to work for very long.
I can’t sleep at night as whenever I get to sleep about half an hour later I wake up coughing again. Doctors is impossible to get an appointment at, got to get up at 8.30 and sit on phone for an hour trying to get through.
Anyone know what this cough could be, how long it’ll last and also, if there are any simple home remedies which will cure it, or at very least ease it so I can talk properly and get some sleep???

Drink lots of fluids, and suck on some Cherry/Or any flavor cough drops. There is no “Cure” it’s just that you may just have a cold, or something. I recommend if it doesn’t work to have some hot water [not hot for you] and suck on the cough drops with water. Also, when you wake up with a cough, drink some fluid and hot water and lie down.
Please try the following home remedies:
1- Boil 1 cup of milk, add 1/2 spoon black pepper ,1 pinch of salt to it, stir well & drink when its hot.
2- Sleep in a room with no fans or AC & automatically if you have a high temprature it will get down, as there is flow of sweat.
3- Take 2 tablets of paracetmol, or panadol at morning & at night..
4- If these does not work with in 2 days, immediately go to a doctor & take antibiotic injection for relief, of course after consulting the doctor..

OK, from someone with chronic bronchitis, this totally sounds like the beginnings of it. If that is true, you will need an antibiotic. If I were you, I would make an appointment and while waiting for that day to get here, I would do a few things to help keep the congestion from going deeper…and it will attempt to go deeper.
First things:
_take a tablespoon of honey for the cough..it works and doesn’t taste nasty like cough syrups..as far as cough syrups, Delsym is best otc I have found.
_use a netti pot to clear out any mucus from your nasal passages. Do a search engine on how to clear out sinuses using netti pot. You don’t have to purchase a pot, just use water and salt mixture and a sippy cup or straw.
_do a steam bath with a drop of tea tree oil (if you have any) or vick’s oil…bring water to boil on stove and then turn off and put a towel over your head (to make a tent) while leaning over the steaming water…take deep breaths slowly…DO NOT BURN YOURSELF…if you use any aromatic oils….use only one drop and NO MORE.
_drink LOTS of noncaffeinated liquids…water, hot tea, hot apple juice.
_eat homemade chicken noodle soup with double the garlic…you won’t be kissing anybody with that cough anyway!
_take the appropriate Mucinex, dm, pe, whatever..ask the pharmacist which one is for your symptoms.
If at anytime while waiting for doctor’s appt, your chest starts hurting badly, you spike a fever (pneumonia), or you are starting to have other symptoms that warrant immediate medical attention, please go to an urgent care facility…
also, for the neck, alternate heat and cold packs. Good luck!
